Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

IOLS is required for Scoutmasters and Assistants to be considered fully trained. Highly recommended for Venturing Advisors and Associates.

This hands-on course covers basic outdoor skills, including woods tools, ropes and lashings, first aid, nature identification, Leave No Trace, cooking, camp set-up, fire building, map and compass, hiking, flag ceremonies, and campfire programs. IOLS prepares you to teach all the outdoor requirements through First Class. Bring all your personal gear as described in the Scout Handbook (sleeping gear, eating gear, clothing, compass, etc.) along with full Class ‘A’ uniform. If you are attending Camporee, you can camp & eat with your Troop. Those not attending camporee will be placed in a patrol to purchase food for the weekend.

Cost: $10/person includes all materials, Friday cracker barrel. Meals will not be provided; participants will be divided into patrols & will determine food arrangements for the course.
